Koltuk! Couch in Istanbul cover shot

I’m really psyched about this cover. They modeled it after how they imagined one of Tree’s dream journals. Check out Domingo publishing, who will be putting out Couch in Turkish. Click the image for a larger view.

The River King paddles a Floating Couch on the Connecticut

Steve Snell “River King” paddled the Connecticut river in a wooden, carved couch boat.

I am almost positive that this is one of the characters from my Couch, my bet is on Erik, escaped from the book. If you run into him, please ask.

Oh, and I just found this at steve-snell.com. Definitely worth a look-see. I’m so happy that Erik upgraded with a paddle.

Via my good friend Paul Chaney who found this story on the other side of the pond.

Couch alternate cover

Felix Schlater at swarmandcreate.com created an alternate cover for Couch. It’s really lovely. It’s worth checking out his other work too – I loved the Black Keys and Arcade Fire album re-designs. The redesign is similar in spirit to the original design that Small Beer Press mocked up as a placeholder before Andi Watson did the final cover. Actually I think  it was the second mockup – but I can’t seem to find it on the web now.

At any rate, thanks Felix!

Update:

Ah, here’s the secondary cover…

The other Couch movie

It’s called Pinoy Sunday and it’s in Filipino and about a different couch. It looks awesome, and from what of it I can understand, it does have a bit in common with that other Couch. It’s going on the must-see list. From the synopsis:

PINOY SUNDAY tells the story of Manuel and Dado, two Filipino migrant workers who discover a discarded sofa. This transforms their normal Sunday into a tale of adventure, perseverance and self-discovery.
“MANUEL and DADO carry the couch out of the city and into the industrial hinterland. The adventure never stops; they further encounter a near-suicide attempt and an old man who offers to ferry them and their couch—only to bring them farther from their destination. Once back on track, they decide that following the river is the shortest way to their dormitory.”
The trailer looks just great. Laura and I lived and worked in Taiwan for a year  (where it takes place) and it’s really great to see the immigrant-worker life documented, especially in a couch-carrying way.

Couch is number one in Oregon Travel Books…?

It’s meaningless, I know, but my ego loves it when Couch is the best-selling Oregon state travel book on Amazon. I have no idea how Couch will help your exploration of Oregon, unless you use it as a sort of furniture how-to guide in rainy climates, but there you go.

Couch for under 4 bucks

Not sure why — maybe it was the MacMillan/Amazon ebook pricing  fiasco or maybe they just feel like there are too many digital copies of Couch -uh, stacking up? But Amazon has dropped the price of the ebook Kindle version of Couch from around $8/a copy to $3.55. Wow.

This is not a post to get the 2 readers of this blog to buy the book (you know who you are. Wait, who are you?) but I was rather surprised by the Kindle price. That’s a really cheap book.

Coen and I read The Hobbit on the Kindle app version on my phone while we were in Brazil and I have to say, it was not a bad reading experience at all. Though it did get a bit tricky when we wanted to scan back to try to remember who so-and-so was.

(Of course Powell’s has the real thing used for 10.95 )
